Curtain Poles

Which diameter of curtain pole is preferred?
Personal preference plays a large part in this choice, but also it depends on the look you are trying to achieve, weight of curtains and width of the window

Can your curtain poles be cut to size at home?
All our pre-packed curtain poles, whether metal or wooden, can be cut to length using a good quality hacksaw

Fitting your curtain pole/track
All our poles and tracks come with fitting instructions which make assembly very easy.

Choosing the correct length pole for your window could not be simpler

Using a rule or metal tape measure the window recess as shown below. Add a minimum of 6" or 15cm overlap to each side of the window (B).

The poles sizes are based on the pole alone. It does NOT include the finials.

If the exact length of pole is not available, always choose a size of pole longer than you require as the poles can easily be cut down to size.

When cutting down a two-piece pole, always cut equal amounts off each pole in order to maintain the joint in the centre.

When cutting down a two-piece wooden pole always cut the finial end of the poles, NOT the joining ends as these are drilled to accept the joining bar.

Try and use Tie Backs to Finish it off.

Every Thing You Need To Know About Drill Bits

Twist Bit (HSS): The twist drill bit is the type produced in largest quantity today. It drills holes in metal, plastic, and wood. General purpose drilling in wood, plastic and light metal. Cobalt is  Another variation on the metal drilling theme. Available in 1mm - 13mm. Cobalt drill-bits are the next step up the hardness scale from HSS drill-bits. They are designed to drill very hard materials, and will cope better with metals like stainless steel

Brad Point Bit:  For boring in wood, this drill bit has high points (brads) for easier positioning and accurate cuts with also extra-wide flutes for chip removal making drilling easier to do.

Spade Bit (Flat Bits):  This Spade or flat bits is designed for boring large diameter holes in wood Ranging from 6mm to 40mm  in diameter cutting a clean cut hole producing a professional look every time.

Adjustable Wood Bit:  For Wood boring this adjustable blade allows the boring of multi-diameter holes from 3/4" to 3" in diameter and everything in between allowing one tool to do the work of many.

Auger Bit:  Designed specifically for wood boring this coarse screw ended bit allows for quick drilling and also has large flutes for chip removal keeping the hole clean allowing maximum clarity.  Available in 6mm to 32mm.

Hole Saw:  Made for boring large diameter holes in all woods and light metal this hole saw will usually range from 1/2" to 6" in diameter accommodating for most jobs.

Forstner Bit:  Specially designed for boring flat-bottomed holes in wood instead of the regular spade bit which does leave small hole in the bottom.

Drill Saw Bit:  A specialized bit which allows cutting irregular contours and holes in woods or metals.

Counter bore, Pilot and Countersink Bit:  Allowing drilling pilot, countersink and couter bore holes in one easy step which also has replaceable and interchangeable pilot bits allowing for all jobs needed.

Installer Bit:  Installing phone wire, TV cable, computer and security system wire? This bit has a hole in the bit head for pulling wire through holes making any DIY job that little bit easier.

Left Hand Bit:  This left hand bit is made specifically for extracting broken, right-hand-threaded studs, screws and bolts which may have become unwanted.

Step Bit:  Made for repetitive drilling in steel, copper, brass, aluminum, plastic and also suitable for wood Debarring holes.

Glass/Tile Bit:  This specialized bit is made for boring in glass or tiles without cracking or damaging the surface but still cutting a fine hole producing a neat and clean hole.

Masonry Bit:  Made for boring in masonry and used in rotary hammers or hammer drills allowing for a universal bit that fits most if not all drills.  Available from 3mm to 18mm.

Scaling Chisel:  For chiseling, scaling and chipping masonry this chisel can be used in rotary hammers or hammer drills making it a very universal chisel fitting most drills.

All products with this finish are treated with a special wax imparting subtle matt richness to the metal. This gives excellent protection where products are fitted internally and maintained. Sometimes because of temperature changes your product might have a slight white bloom. We recommend you polish it with a soft cloth, this will restore the finish. However, mild steel or malleable iron, which are the two materials we forge, when fitted in damp bathrooms or wet properties, have the potential to exhibit surface rust. In these situations we recommend an application of maintenance wax. Please make sure plaster is fully dry before fitting ironmongery.

The maintenance wax will restore the finish and afford protection. If surface rust does occur rub with wire wool and apply maintenance wax with a rag or brush. Inevitably when two areas of metal come into contact with each other an abrasive action is enacted, and sooner or later the wax surfaces are lost by the constant rubbing action. This is unavoidable during the operational activity of the article, so where obvious abrasive areas of moving parts are visible an occasional light oiling is recommended.

There are many general advantages to using the powder coating process over conventional paints. For instance it contains no solvents so is kinder to the environment, overspray can be reused, it doesn’t run and it provides a tougher coating. Powder coating provides an attractive and durable corrosion resistant finish. The traditional black finish can last for a good 15 – 20 years so it’s an excellent low maintenance option for exterior ironmongery applications.

Pewter Patina is elegant and beautifully highlights the texture of the steel. Stylish and modern, it is equally suited to a new home as well as a period one. It has excellent anti-corrosion properties. Externally this finish requires no more than an occasional cleaning with a damp cloth. If you want a maintenance free finish combined with a superb natural metal colour then pewter patina is ideal.
